I was sitting at breakfast one morning and noticed a fair amount of bird traffic around the feeders, so I set-up the camera and waited, hoping to grab a frame. I've observed that Blue Jays are usually very competitive around the feeders, and tend to hopping around all over the place trying to gain an edge over each other when it comes to food, so I was very supprised to see these four just sitting there peacefully. The fact that it was minus 20F may have had something to do with it, and the moment was rather short lived. I did manage a number of frames with a single Jay, but this was the only group photo they would pose for that morning.Thursday, April 3, 2008

Such a beautiful shot! I know some people consider them "ordinary" birds, but they really are one of our most beautiful birds!
That is a really beautiful shot! I've never seen jays just sit there together like that. Bluejays have such beautiful color and you captured it perfectly. It looks like the front of a greeting card.
Beautiful capture Mike. Perfect lighting and color. What a group of characters!! Sometimes I get mad at the jays for just swallowing the sunflower seeds whole but they are just doing what they do and I put up with them for a bit before I politely ask them to leave!
Mike- Thanks for the comment and welcome to the blogosphere. I love Maine, since my wife is from the Oxford Hills we still get up that way quite a bit.

Extraordinary! I love that image. And I browsed back through your posts, and I know I'm going to enjoy your blog. I've added a link to my blog. Thanks.
Great capture, I have never seen bluejays or cardinals.. Thanks for sharing.
Very beautiful. Great capture. I'll sure be back!
Cheers, Klaus
The birds' breasts look so fluffy, something I have never seen before. The light on the birds is perfect. I once saw a blue jay play dead as it was trying to intice my cat from under a chair. It was the funniest thing I've seen
