Tiger Swallow Tail & Blue Flag Iris

This image was taken while kayaking behind my home. Blue Flags grow in abundance along the river, and usually come into full bloom around Father's Day. They can be a challenge to capture because they grow in wet areas, and are usually well protected by black flies.

When I looked out the window this morning I noticed the new buds on the Lilac bush. With that in mind, I remembered back to an image I had made of a Tiger Swallow Tail on that Lilac bush.

Lupine & Bee

When the Lupines are in bloom in Maine I know summer has finally arrived, however unofficial it may be. The beauty of these flowers is that they tend to grow in large patches, which makes for all sorts of composition ideas. Time passes quickly when you step behind the shutter in a patch these beauties.

Hummingbird Moth

I took this image of a Hummingbird Moth while walking through the Maine Botanical Garden. This is 128-acre seaside botanical garden located on the Back River in Boothbay that was just opened to the public last season.
